about us

Oaxaca Bike Touring is here to help intrepid bike travellers experience the sometimes savage beauty of Oaxaca, and encounter some of the friendliest people on the planet.

We’re not an ordinary bike touring company, in that we don’t offer organized ‘package’ or ‘group’ tours. Instead, we’re here to help real travellers get in direct contact with what we believe is the real México – far from the madding crowds, and most likely far from any other tourists.

We offer accommodation at Oaxaca Bike Hostal in Tlalixtac de Cabrera, on the outskirts of Oaxaca de Juárez, and a range of services to help you explore this wild territory. From initial planning to trip support and backup, we’re here to help you experience the real thing!

Multi-DAy Tours

Motorcycle Adventures

We've spent the last few years exploring Oaxaca, along with neighboring areas in Puebla, Veracruz and Chiapas. During this time, we've steadily built up our collection of motorbikes for our rental pool.

Long-Distance Tours

Bicycle Adventures

We've also been hitting the road by bicycle! We've learned a few key lessons: 1 - how to manage the incredibly steep slopes of the Sierra Norte and Sur. The trick is to start trips in the Valles Centrales and return by 'urban' minibuses. We've also experimented with packing up the bikes and taking a taxi up to the 'cumbre' at the start of the trip - a huge saving of time and energy! 2 - especially with trips to the north, be prepared for rain. In the rainforest of the north slope of the Sierra Norte it's almost guaranteed - in HUGE quantities!

Oaxaca Bike Hostal

Your Base in México

Oaxaca's only bike hostal really has been a labor of love! Under the close supervision of Roja and Mancha, we've joined two separate 'casitas' to make one larger building, constructed a new second floor, and established a lush tropical garden populated mostly with local species.

We've also been using the large 'domitorio' room as a rehearsal studio - bring your own instruments and we can jam!

Hotel Accommodation

Out on the Road

We've also gained plenty of insider knowledge about accommodation across the state of Oaxaca. Generally speaking, because virtually all of the land is communally owned, it's way easier and cheaper to use local hotels rather than try camping (asking permission at the 'Comisariado' of the municapality can be very time-consuming, and often uproductive, while dedicated campsites are few and far betweeen and tend to cater to large groups rather than independent travellers.)
